The Effectiveness of Team Project technique to Teach Writing Viewed from Students’ Creativity (An Experimental Research at the Fourth Semester of English Department Students of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the Academic Year of 2012/2013)

This research aims at establishing whether: (1) Team Project technique is more effective than Guided Writing to teach writing skill; (2) the students having high creativity have better writing skill than those having low creativity; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching technique and students’ creativity in teaching writing skill to the fourth semester students of English Department Students of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the Academic Year of 2012/2013in the academic year of 2012/2013.
The method which was applied in this research was quasi experimental study. The population of this research was the forth semester students of English Department which consists of 218 students. The sample of the research was two classes (48 students); The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. The data were analyzed by using Multifactor Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test of 2×2 and Tuckey test.
The result of data analysis shows that: (1) Team Project technique differs significantly from Guided Writing method to teach writing because Fo > Ft and qo (between A1 and A2) > qt; (2) students having high creativity differ significantly from those having low creativity because Fo > Ft and qo (between B1 and B2) > qt; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching technique and students’ creativity in teaching writing because Fo > Ft, and the result of Tuckey test shows that: (a) for the students having high creativity, Team Project technique differs significantly from Guided Writing method to teach writing because qo (between A1B1 and A2B1) > qt; and (b) for the students having low creativity, Guided Writing method does not differs significantly from Team Project technique to teach writing because qo (between A1B2 and A2B2) > qt.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah: (1) Team Project technique lebih effektif daripada Guided Writing untuk mengajar writing; (2) siswa dengan tingkat kreatifitas tinggi mempunyai kemampuan menulis yang lebih baik daripada yang tingkat kreatifitasnya rendah; dan (3) terdapat interaksi antara teknik mengajar dan tingkat kreatifitas siswa dalam mengajar kemampuan menulis pada mahasiswa semester empat Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo tahun ajaran 2012/2013.
Metode yang digunakan dalan penelitian ini adalah quasi experimental study. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester empat Program Studi Bahasa Inggris berjumlah 218 siswa. Sampel penelitian adalah dua kelas (48 siswa). Cluster Random Sampling digunakan sebagai teknik pengambilan sampel. Data penelitian dianalisis menggunakan Multifactor Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test of 2×2 dan Tuckey test.
Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Team Project technique secara signifikan berbeda dengan Guided Writing dalam mengajar writing karena Fo > Ft dan qo (antara A1 dan A2) > qt; (2) siswa dengan tingkat kreatifitas tinggi berbeda secara signifikan terhadap siswa dengan tingkat kreatifitas rendah karena Fo > Ft dan qo (antara B1 dan B2) > qt; dan (3) terdapat interaksi anatara teknik mengajar dan tingkat kreatifitas siswa dikarenakan Fo > Ft, dan hasil Tuckey test menunjukkan bahwa: (a) untuk siswa dengan tingkat kreatifitas tinggi, Team Project technique berbeda secara signifikan dengan Guided Writing pada mengajar writing karena qo (antara A1B1 dan A2B1) > qt; dan (b) untuk siswa dengan tingkat kreatifitas rendah, Guided Writing tidak berbeda secara signifikan dengan Team Project technique untuk mengajar writing karena (antara A1B2 dan A2B2) > qt.
