Tujuan penelitian  adalah untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya hubungan antara : (1) kemampuan memahami bacaan dan keterampilan menulis siswa SMP Kota Surakarta; (2) kemampuan menguasai kosakata dan keterampilan menulis siswa SMP Kota Surakarta; (3) sikap terhadap bahasa Indonesia dan keterampilan menulis siswa SMP Kota Surakarta; dan (4) kemampuan memahami bacaan, kemampuan menguasai kosakata, dan sikap terhadap bahasa Indonesia secara bersama-sama dengan keterampilan menulis siswa SMP Kota Surakarta
Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan teknik korelasi dan regresi sederhana dan ganda. Populasi penelitian adalah 2000 siswa .  Sampel penelitian berjumlah  100 siswa yang ditentukan melalui teknik stratified random sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah tes bentuk objektif untuk kemampuan memahami bacaan dan kemampuan menguasai kosakata, penugasan menulis, dan angket sikap terhadap bahasa Indonesia.
Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa (1) terdapat hubungan positif antara kemampuan memahami bacaan dan keterampilan menulis siswa SMP; (2) terdapat hubungan positif antara kemampuan menguasai kosakata dan keterampilan menulis; (3) terdapat hubungan positif antara sikap terhadap bahasa Indonesia dan keterampilan menulis; dan (4) terdapat hubungan positif antara kemampuan memahami bacaan, kemampuan menguasai kosakata, dan sikap terhadap bahasa Indonesia secara bersama-sama dan keterampilan menulis siswa SMP Kota Surakarta.
Berdasarkan hasil analisis data tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif antara kemampuan memahami bacaan, kemampuan menguasai kosakata,   dan sikap terhadap bahasa Indonesia secara bersama – sama dengan keterampilan menulis siswa SMP Kota Surakarta. Kenaikan nilai kemampuan memahami bacaan dan kemampuan menguasai kosakata serta sikap terhadap bahasa Indonesia dapat menjadi prediksi bagi peningkatan nilai keterampilan menulis siswa.

This research aimed to ascertain the correlation between: (1)   the skills of reading comprehension and writing of Lower Secondary Education students in Surakarta; (2) the skills of vocabulary mastery and writing of Lower Secondary Education students in  Surakarta; (3) the attitude towards Indonesian language and the writing skill of  Lower Secondary Education students in  Surakarta; and (4) the skill of reading comprehension, the skill of vocabulary mastery, and the attitude towards Indonesian language along with the writing skill of   Lower Secondary Education students in  Surakarta.

This  study  applied   a  quantitative  approach  with  simple  and  multiple correlation and regression techniques. The population of study contained 2,000 students and a sample of 100 students determined by stratified random sampling technique.  The data collection technique applied was an objective form test for the skills of reading comprehension,  vocabulary mastery, writing assignment, and questionnaire of attitudes toward Indonesian language.

The results of data analysis indicated that (1) there was a positive correlation between the skills of reading comprehension and writing of Lower Secondary Education students; (2) there was a positive correlation between the skills of vocabulary mastery and writing; (3) there was a positive correlation between the attitude towards Indonesian language and the writing skill; and (4) there was a positive correlation between the skills of reading comprehension, vocabulary mastery, and the attitude towards Indonesian language along with the writing skill of Lower Secondary Education students in Surakarta.

Thus, from the analysis results, it can be concluded that there was a positive correlation between the skills of reading comprehension, vocabulary mastery, and the attitude towards Indonesian language along with the writing skill of Lower Secondary Education students in Surakarta. The increasing number of the skills of reading comprehension, vocabulary mastery, and the attitude towards Indonesian language may lead to a prediction of the increasing number of students’ writing skill.
